Flag competition 19th September - Kelso


18 girls in 3 age categories played at Kelso today in a flag competition run by the Border Ladies, many Border clubs including Duns, Hawick, Kelso, Melrose, Minto and Torwoodlee were represented. Results Age 9 and under Winner Rhea Middlemass (9) Hawick Runner-up Lily Towers (7) Minto Age 10 & 11 Winner Lucy Murray (10) Kelso Runner-up Megan Brennan (10) Kelso Age 12 & over Winner Maxine Rae (14) Kelso Runner-up Katie Ross (13) Duns Many thanks to Kelso Golf Club, all helpers and parents for their support on the day, all girls had a great time.

Match South vs East


A good day at Peebles on Sunday 12th September with 16 girls playing in the annual match between the South and East. The greensomes match saw East winning 2.5 to 1.5 .

Scottish Girls

Congratulation to Lesley Atkins, the new Scottish Girls U18 Champion, she beat Kate McIntosh in the final 5&4 at Eyemouth yesterday. Lesley(15) from Hawick, a previous Borders Champion, now plays out of Gullane and is on a golfing scholarship at Loretto School.

Day 2 Scottish Girls

The weather was terrible for the early starts this morning with very wet and windy conditions culminating in a suspension of play for two and a half hours just after 12pm for fog. The afternoon conditions were much calmer which helped the late starters. Rachel Watton and Eilidh Briggs lead the qualifiers for the championship matchplay. Tara Mactaggert is the only Border's representative left, she plays Broomieknowe's Hannah Scott in the Ansley Reid Salver. Good luck Tara

Both Tara and Danielle have posted 92 and are playing together at 9.20 tomorrow in the 2nd round. Leanne had 105, she goes off at 8.40. Laura with 115 goes off at 8.30 Hope things go better for you all tomorrow.

Scottish Girls

Thats the practice day over with, everyone has registered and attended the pre-championship meeting, now the fun begins! Two rounds strokeplay with the best 32 scratch scores going on to the matchplay championships, currently held by Ailsa Bain(Peebles). The next best 16 girls go on to play for the Ansley Reid Salver(previously held by Isla Craigie, the current Border Ladies Champion)

Under 14's - Auchterarder

Kelso girls Danielle Ker(13), Leanne Wilson(23) and Laura Mathewson(26) all played in the Scottish under 14 girl's championship today at Auchterarder.
Danielle played really well to finish in the top 10 with a gross 83, Leanne played to her buffer with a gross 94, Laura unfortunately shot 105, better luck next time.
The competition was won by Connie Jaffrey from West Kilbride with a fantastic 68 gross.
A great experience - I hope you all enjoyed it even though you got rather wet.

Rachel and Katie played some brilliant golf over the weekend winning all three of their matches. Emma & Vicky won the other point in a very good humoured match against North. Danielle and Katie W played exceptionally well on Sunday against the West's no1 pairing leading by 2 after 5 holes, they were pulled back to level after 8 and held on by their fingernails until the 16th.

Ballumbie

The sun is shining - what a great day for golf.
Everybody arrived safely last night although Jenny Pearson did see a lot of Dundee and even some parts of north Fife during her journey!!
The girls have all had their breakfast and we are now loading the cars to get up to the golf course

Inter Division Matches at Ballumbie

The inter division matches get under way this weekend 5/6th June with the teams arriving in Dundee on Friday night
The 6 girl teams from each of the four divisions will play each other in a 'round robin' format. Each match will consist of 3 foursomes

Draw for Sat afternoon (2.32pm first tee)

Draw for Sun morning (10am first tee)

South team announced for Ballumbie

The South team for the interdivisional matches has been announced and includes two Border girls. Tara Mactaggart(Minto), a member of the Scottish Development squad is joined by newcomer Danielle Ker(Kelso). The matches are to be held over the weekend of 5/6th June at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club, Dundee

Leanne Wilson wins the Bronze Championship at the Roxburghe

Over the weekend, Kelso girl Leanne Wilson(13), pictured left receiving her prize from County President, Isobel Massie with County capt Jenny Pearson looking on, won the Border Ladies County Championship, Bronze Division.
Leanne who had qualified 7th and plays off a handicap of 29 got through to the final after winning her quarter 1up and her semi 3&2. In an up and down final against Dianne Keddie from Peebles, she fought back well after being 3 down through 12 to win by a hole.

Congratulations to Tara Mactaggart who qualified 2nd for the Border Ladies Championship with a brilliant 75 scratch at Hawick on Sunday. Laura Matthewson and Leanne Wilson also qualified for the Bronze Championship. The Championships will be held on 8/9th May at The Roxburghe.
